What Are The Benefits of CBD?

CBD products were made legal in the United States with the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018. It legalized CBD derived from industrial hemp sources as long as it contains no more than 0.3% THC by dry weight. Since then, we’ve seen an explosion in the United States of various CBD products from gummies to topical creams to smokeable CBD-heavy hemp flower.

But, what are the benefits to be had from using CBD in your everyday life? Below, we’ll talk about some of the most well-known benefits of CBD.

Pain Relief

There is more scientific evidence that CBD assists with pain relief and pain management than any other potential benefit. It’s widely known now that cannabis has pain-relieving properties, but does that come from the THC in the cannabis or the CBD? The answer is both!

Fortunately for those who live in states that do not have medical or recreational cannabis available, industrial hemp strains are being bred to be heavy in CBD. According to research, CBD inhibits the body’s absorption of anandamide

Anandamide is a cannabinoid produced by your own body that interacts with your body’s endocannabinoid system to do various things, including regulating pain.

Research has shown that CBD inhibits the production of an enzyme called FAAH (fatty acid amide hydrolase) that breaks down the anandamide that your body produces. When your body isn’t able to break down as much anandamide, it increases the amount of anandamide available to your body’s endocannabinoid system. This translates to less pain felt, among other benefits.

Reduces Anxiety & Depression

Anxiety and depression are common mental issues that many people worldwide deal with every day. In the United States, anxiety disorders affect approximately 18% of the population, but unfortunately, only around 36.9^ of those people are receiving any sort of treatment for it.

Fortunately, CBD has recently come to the forefront as a suitable substance for managing anxiety symptoms that don’t require a prescription and are available in most states in the US. Many medications such as Xanax, Valium, and even Prozac may work for some, but don’t work for everyone and may have addictive properties not found with CBD

Can Assist In Alleviating Cancer Symptoms & Treatment Side Effects

Cannabis has been known for years now to be able to assist with the alleviation of cancer symptoms and the symptoms of cancer treatments such as chemotherapy, but what about CBD from industrial hemp sources?

Research says that CBD may assist the body with its uptake of certain cancer drugs.

Other research suggests that CBD may be able to help patients alleviate the inflammatory pain caused by cancer. THC is has been proven to be more effective in managing nerve pain via the body’s CB1 receptors, while CBD has been shown to indirectly affect the body’s CB2 receptors, which are involved in reducing inflammatory types of pain.

There are currently no FDA approved CBD products for the treatment of cancer or managing its symptoms, however.

Acne Reducing

These days everything claims to be able to help get rid of acne, but CBD may be a true contender in this field. Acne is an extremely common skin condition and it affects most people at some point in their lives.

The skin produces sebum, which is an oily, wax type of substance that your body produces to protect the skin. But when it gets trapped in skin pores along with dirt, dead skin, etc, the pores become clogged and then you have acne.

CBD reduces the amount of sebum your skin creates by affecting your skin’s sebocytes, which are what create it. It also has an anti-inflammatory effect on these cells and reduces the cytokine response that can trigger acne outbreaks.

Neuroprotective Properties

CBD has been recognized as potentially beneficial to neurological conditions due to its antioxidant properties. Antioxidants reduce the amount of oxidation that occurs in the body. Oxidation produces “free radicals” and over time, these can damage the cells of your body and lead to long term, chronic illnesses.

Antioxidants are important inclusions in our daily diet and can be foods such as blueberries, grapes, tea, spinach, onions, and more. Even though our bodies produce their own antioxidants, it’s typically not enough to stave off and neutralize the effects of oxidative stress placed on the body by various ailments.

Antioxidant diets have been shown to decrease the risk of conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, arthritis, and more.

CBD encourages the brain to grow new neurons, which mitigates the damage done by oxidative stress. CBD could be used to encourage the healing process of the brain after traumatic brain injuries, strokes, and more.

CBD’s Effect On Heart Health

Due to the anxiety and stress-reducing properties of CBD, it can lead to a drop in blood pressure. For those who have high blood pressure, this can be a definite benefit long term.

Hardened arteries are caused by bodily inflammation and CBD has anti-inflammatory properties.

Antipsychotic Effects

Unlike THC, which has been linked to psychotic-like symptoms in some individuals, CBD has been shown to reduce those symptoms

CBD has shown promise in the treatment of substance use disorders and psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia. This has also been linked to CBD’s ability to inhibit FAAH, which reduces the body’s ability to break down anandamide.

Sleep Disorders and CBD

Sleep issues plague many Americans every year, and recent reports claim most Americans lack the proper amount of sleep. The good news is that there is a growing field of science to back what most CBD users have known all along. It helps you sleep. The relaxing effect most get from CBD is very relaxing, making sleep possible. There’s a lot to learn about CBD and sleep with plenty of information on the topic.
