CBD vs CBG For Anxiety

One of the most popular health crazes going on right now is the use of CBD oil and other CBD products. As most people know by now, Cannabidiol (CBD) comes from the hemp plant, also known as cannabis. There are more than 120 different cannabinoids in cannabis and only one, Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), is known to have psychoactive properties. CBD does not make you high, but it does appear to have many other beneficial uses for various medical issues.

What Are The Benefits OF CBD?

CBD is a natural compound extracted from the hemp plant. It works with the body’s endocannabinoid system and helps to optimize psychological and physiological functions. One of the many reasons so many are using CBD products is because it has been very helpful for those suffering from various forms of epilepsy. This is thought to be because it seems to have anticonvulsant properties.

However, epileptic seizures are only one condition that CBD seems to be beneficial for. Other ailments that CBD users claim it is also helpful in reducing inflammation, addresses insomnia, improves cognition, helps regulate mood, provides nerve protection, acts as an anti-depressant, and one of the biggest claims is that it helps with anxiety. Further research is still being conducted to validate these claims even though so many users swear by the effectiveness of CBD products.

How Does CBD Help Relieve Anxiety?

Receptors in the human body are protein-based chemical structures that are attached to the cells. These receptors receive signals from different stimuli. There are two main receptors mostly found in the central nervous system, and they are called CB1 and CB2. CBD is thought to interact with these receptors, but how it affects them is not yet fully understood. It is thought that CBD may alter serotonin signals.

Serotonin is a neurotransmitter and it plays a very important part in mental health. Those with low serotonin can suffer from depression. In turn, depression will often cause anxiety as well. The common treatment for depression is the use of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). These can include prescription medications like Zoloft and Prozac.

Many of these prescription medications can cause unwanted side effects for some and many people have searched for alternative treatments. Even though studies are still being conducted to prove beyond a doubt that CBD is effective for treating anxiety, many people already won’t go through their day without using it.

What Is CBG?

It could be said that cannabigerol (CBG) is like a big brother to CBD and THC. CBG is a less known cannabinoid from hemp, but some believe it may be even more effective for issues like chronic pain and anxiety than CBD is thought to be. CBG is also non-toxic, non-addictive, and non-intoxicating just like CBD.

There is research being done in trying to discover its effects on humans when it comes to other medical issues like regulating blood pressure, reducing inflammation, oncology, as an anti-depressant, bone growth and repair, and battling glaucoma. Even with research ongoing, it seems that the popularity of CBG is already growing among those that use CBD products.

Most hemp plants don’t contain that much CBG compound, however, like CBD, some strains of hemp are being bred to produce much more CBD and CBG. Some hemp farmers are beginning to focus on the plant’s yield of CBG because it is thought to have a lot of potential on its own just like CBD. It’s still not as widely available or proven as CBD, however.

Combining CBD And CBG

One thing that studies have shown is that when the cannabinoids of the hemp plant are used together, it creates what is known now as the “entourage effect” This simply means that even though each cannabinoid may work well enough for certain things, but when combined with other cannabinoids even more spectacular results can be achieved.

Even though CBD and CBG have in the past been considered minor cannabinoids, that is certainly not the case today. They appear to be anything but minor and both hold promise to provide even more benefits as research continues. There are already CBD oils available that are known as “full-spectrum” It is believed by many that full-spectrum CBD products are more effective because they do contain other cannabinoids that may be more helpful in combination with one another.

Should You Try CBD And CBG For Your Anxiety?

Even though many people already use these cannabinoids to help treat their anxiety, it is only good common sense to discuss any kind of medication with your doctor. This is especially true if you have already been prescribed a medication that helps you combat anxiety and depression. Stopping some anti-depressants suddenly is a bad idea and your doctor should definitely be consulted before you discontinue a medication or add a new product to your line-up even if it is a CBD or CBG product.
